“Sophie” - Sophie is an exceptionally intelligent female with intense desires to please and retrieve.  Sophie has one of the finest pedigrees of British Labs in the United States.  Her five-generation pedigree includes three British National Retriever Champions, including FTCH Pocklea Remus, as well as one Irish National Retriever Champion.  In Sophie’s pedigree, 43 out of 62 dogs achieved British Field Trial titles, 31 of which were Field Trial Champions (FTCH) and 12 of which were Field Trial Winners (FTW).  Sophie’s Pedigree.

Sophie is the consummate hunting retriever and family dog.  She truly has a two-speed personality:  she is very laid-back, calm, and easy-going around home, yet she is all business in the field.  Sophie is a particularly loving and tolerant dog – she is especially good with children.

Sophie is a very good marking dog.  She is also very good at hunting up cripples and birds in heavy cover – she is perseverant and always digs out those difficult to find birds.  Sophie is an excellent handling dog and a pleasure to run on blinds – she is particularly adept at taking precise literal casts and holding them through or across factors. 

Sophie received her Hunting Retriever Champion (HRCH) Title in HRC/UKC Hunt Tests at the age of 2.5 years old, passing every HRC hunt test that she entered.  She obtained her Junior Hunter (JH) title when she was 1 year old.  After obtaining her HRCH title, I have not campaigned her further in HRC/UKC hunt tests; rather, we have focused on training for AKC field trials.  We have, however, run our local AKC club’s hunt tests this past year, and Sophie has qualified in a Master Hunter (MH) test.

 

In 2005, Sophie ran two Qualifying Stakes at our local club’s AKC Field Trials.  In her second Qualifying stake, she performed very well and took 4th Place!   In addition to trialing/testing, Sophie is a superb hunting dog and has retrieved numerous ducks and doves in Arkansas and literally hundreds of pheasants at plantation shoots in Georgia.
