Graystone British Labradors offers puppies from very limited
breedings of two of the best pedigreed and accomplished British
field Labrador Retrievers in the United States. In addition to
having pedigrees that are among the best and from some of the best
bloodlines, our British Labs have proven themselves to be proficient
hunters in the field, successful participants in AKC and HRC/UKC
Hunt Tests, and successful competitors in limited trialing at AKC
Field Trial Qualifying Stakes.
The British field Labrador is a serious working retriever.
They are generally described as athletic smaller-framed retrievers –
bred to be calm, quiet, very tractable, easily steadied, and solid
markers with excellent noses.
Indeed, British field Labs have been selectively bred not only to
excel at retrieving game, but also to be quiet, attentive, and very
biddable. It’s an interesting balance – a predisposition to be
calm, yet still have an intense desire to hunt, flush, and retrieve
game. They are particularly intelligent and possess a
remarkable desire to please – making them easy to train to high
levels of retrieving competence – even by the novice trainer.
The British field Labrador’s outstanding characteristics also make
them some of the best family pets. They tend to be
exceptionally tolerant, patient, and loving with children.
This temperament is a result of the Britain's historically
selective breeding of their working retrievers, which emphasized the
need for their retrievers to interact exceptionally well with groups
of people and other dogs at hunts/trials and not to display
aggressive or excitable behavior.
In addition to testing marking and handling skills, British
retriever field trials emphasize incredibly high standards of
quietness, steadiness, and manners – any minor breach of these
standards results in the dog and handler being struck from the
trial. Consequently, dogs that excel and achieve retriever
field trial titles in the United Kingdom are those that exemplify
these qualities. Naturally, the more field trial titles in a
British Lab’s pedigree, the higher the probability of producing
dogs with these outstanding qualities.
