“Lex” - Lex
is a powerfully built, smaller-framed British Labrador male with
exceptional desire and speed. Lex is one of the best pedigreed
British field Labrador males in the United States and United
Kingdom. His Sire is FTCH Craighorn Bracken, the 2001 British
National Retriever Champion. His Dam was FTCH Garendon Cassie
of Ropehall, a remarkable dog in her own right and littermate to
FTCH Garendon Captain, the 1998 British National Retriever Champion. In addition to his sire, Lex’s five generation pedigree
includes five other British National Retriever Champions,
including FTCH Pocklea Remus, one of the best know British field
champion retrievers of all time. In Lex’s five-generation
pedigree, 47 out of 62 dogs achieved British Field Trial titles,
40 of which were Field Trial Champions (FTCH) and 7 of which were
Field Trial Winners (FTW).
Lex’s Pedigree.
Lex is a
great marker – Lex has his sire’s marking skills (FTCH Craighorn
Bracken finished and won the 2001 British National Retriever Championship
without handling on a single mark – that’s good marking!). Lex is
also a very nice lining dog and reached a literal casting standard
in his handling at a remarkably young age. Lex has an intense
desire to please, which when combined with his singular desire to
retrieve has made him particularly easy to train. Lex is the type
of dog that even in mundane drill work, never slows down. He was
the kind of puppy and is the kind of dog that always finishes
training wanting more – he never gets tired of this game.

Lex
obtained his Hunting Retriever (HR) title when he was 1.5 years
old in early Fall 2004. Since that time, I have not campaigned
him in HRC/UKC hunt tests; rather, we have focused on training
for AKC field trials. Lex has qualified in 1 of 2
Master Hunter (MH) tests.
In addition to
trialing/testing, Lex is a great hunting dog and has retrieved
dozens of ducks in Arkansas and literally hundreds of pheasants at
plantation shoots in Georgia.
